OpenStreetMap is a project to create a freely-licensed, user-editable (wiki-style) map of the world.

SamatJain gave a presentation on OpenStreetMap on July 5, 2010. The best part of his talk was a video by Sir Tim Berners-Lee, The year open data went worldwide, in which he highlighted how much more agile OpenStreetMap is compared to commercial map providers. Samat's slides are available (though they're not very good without narration.).

The best focal point for OpenStreetMap work in New Mexico is the New Mexico page on the OpenStreetMap wiki.
